Diagnosing excessive pedal travel - Found a spacer installed, whats it for? (pic inside)
I'm finally getting around to addressing the excessive pedal travel in my truck (Late 97 model F250)
There was this aluminum spacer installed between the master cylinder and brake booster. Has anyone seen one of these on an OBS before? I removed it and it instantly helped my excessive pedal travel.
I am wondering why it was installed?
A couple theories I have:
- Installed to try and prevent dragging brakes (My calipers were partially stuck due to seized slide pins)
- Installed to help trailer brakes engage earlier (My truck has provisions for a gooseneck)
I am replacing my MC next since I noticed brake fluid leaking down the booster.. I hope that will give me the last bit of pedal force i need.

I ended up replacing the master cylinder after I noticed brake fluid leaking out of it. The pedal feel is significantly improved, but there's still a little bit of travel. I suspect its the ABS modulator. I will try and find a grassy field where I can lock up the rear wheels and pulse the modulator..
