Off topic:Need some help or advice on insurance claim

So today my fiancé called me crying saying her 2017 Subaru Forester was broken into......They smashed out or pryed the window until it broke and damaged the metal trim around the door, scratched the door, and wrecked the panel inside the door......this car is literally brand new with only 1500 miles on it

They stole a $1500 purse with a $500 wallet, heres the icing on the cake they stole her engagement(inside the purse) being an RN, they don't allow her to wear it at work but she wears it 24/7 otherwise.....$7000 loss.......

Where do I go from here? I already started a claim on the car insurance and they told me the personal belongings would have to go thru home owners insurance....I have a $500 deduc on the car, and a $1500 deduct on home owners.....So if I used both right off the bat I'm out $2,000.......

What should I do? Cut my losses on the personal belongings stolen and get the car fixed? I don't want either insurance company to drop me nor do I want my rates to go up.....Never dealt with either before and since I feel this is a forum thats like a family and friends I am looking for some pointers....Sorry for the long post but I don't know where to go from here.....

Last time my Duramax was hit it was a nightmare and the truck was in the shop for 3 months with supplements and everything else....We have rental car reimbursement and she could always drive my truck in the mean time since its not my daily driver.....

I appreciate any input!

Thanks, it sucks but here's how I look at it, they obviously needed the stuff more then we did.

Pawn it to give their kids a Christmas, buy drugs, or just have nothing better to do.

She's devistated about the ring(our wedding is in a few months)

Going forward get some sort of secure lockable storage or dont leave stuff in the car which you know. After having tools stolen out of my truck and being in your shoes we upped the insurance substantially and chose a lesser deductible. This summer we moved and had our stuff in a self storage. Upping the insurance saved our butts. They broke in and stole alot of stuff. Insurance is there for what if. I would use it. Your paying for it. Its 7k. If it were 200 bucks id say just pay for it. Make a police report and work with the leo's maybe you will be lucky and find some of the stuff. If you have alot of bs claims they might drop you. I would up your coverage and lower your deductible if it was me.

Jewelry usually needs to be listed by item to be covered on policies I have had before. Better make sure with the agent that you are covered for the ring.

Sorry to hear that the car was broken into. I have to ask though, and I'm sure more people are thinking about. Why would anybody buy a $7000 ring for their woman, then let her leave it in her car??? Guarantee, somebody from her work broke into her car. Just saying man. I hope everything works out.

That ring is probably the most important thing she has its like her kid....

I don't think it was a co-worker since 3 other cars were hit as well.....but you never do know......also the camera shows someone in a hoodie and it as an african american male......

I would talk to your home owners insurance agent and see if the personal belongings are covered. I would not think you need to list all your pesonal valuable belongings on a home owners insurance policy for them to be covered. It's not uncommon to have valuables in your vehicle and i would hope they are covered under home owners insurance. Just a thought.

The car i would get repaired, its brand new.

Pull your homeowners policy and read it thoroughly.

Typically higher valued jewelry would need an additional rider to be covered. You may have a certain limit that they may cover without it being on a separate rider. It will not cost you anything to inquire.

The purse and wallet are expensive, however; I would not pursue replacement of those two items alone if the ring is not included in the claim. The deductible and likely insurance premium increase does not make sense for those two items.

If you use a smaller shop for the repairs, they may work your deductible in the cost of the repairs.
