I'm thinking his heirs will be trying to unload it before donating it somewhere. It is both pretty and pretty expensive.

So how big would the hole need to be in the center of my hood to accommodate that? Amazing. There are youtube videos of his flathead dragster. It can haul the mail.

I'm thinking the hood opening would extend into the windshield.

Beautiful engine! Saw a more tame version in a 40 Ford coupe last year, gotta love the Ardun heads.

OK, stupid question here. Or as I said to my students when I was teaching, "The only stupid question is the one you don't ask."

Why isn't it really a flathead anymore?

A flathead engine has the valves in the block and thus the heads are flat with no moving parts. The Ardun heads are an overhead valve design so when installed the engine no longer has "flat" heads.

OK, that makes sense, I didn't know what Ardun heads were. Thanks

Here's the engine for posterity, cuz I bet it will sell over the weekend...
As I recall, original ArDun heads with all the rockers, pushrods, valves, etc. are well over $20k in good used condition. A blower setup like that is $5k, without the chrome. Six chrome Holleys, gotta be $1500 at least. The crank girdles are a couple grand and have to be fitted. His price of $55k doesn't look too out of line for what it is, and you're sure to be the only 533 HP flathead at the show!

Look at the big kink in the oil line in the last picture ,I wonder how that will effect its durability in the long run .
