gas line removal from gas filter

Hey Guys; I'm having a problem getting the Gas Filter Line off with the plastic tool they supply. It just won't release. Would someone please let me know if there's a different tool that should work or another way to get the lines off.???
The lines are free to move so I don't know why they will not come off. Sean

Try pushing the fuel line solidly towards the filter, and holding it there, while pushing the release tool in. The sleeve on the tool has to fully lift up the grippers, for them to release and get over the ridge on the filter tubing.

Many here like the plastic tool, but I have a metal "scissors type" made by Lisle, and have never had problems getting them to release, once the tool was fully inserted while the line was pushed hard towards the filter. Then pull the line off, while pushing just as hard on the tool, outwards.

EDIT: I leave the filter mounted in the bracket on the truck, while I release the lines, as the frame holds the filter, then, instead of it wiggling around.

Have tried doing exactly that and it just appears like the plastic tool they give is isn't long enough or the ring isn't being pushed up. You gave me the name of a maker of your metal tool and I'm in search of it now. Thanks for responding. I think the tool you have will work fine.

oops, sorry, I just went out and located it, it's not Lisle, it's a KD 3321 fuel line disconnect tool, also called a quick disconnect tool.

Seems just about everywhere has it available.

I got my scissor type tool from Advance Auto for $7.

First time I did my fuel filter I tried the pen cap trick. It worked, but was a pain and took way too long (like 30 minutes).
I bought the tool and it now takes like 3 minutes to change a fuel filter, and it is a must have if doing something like a fuel pump change.

Very often the person doing it is the biggest problem and defeats himself trying to get these connector a part. The fuel lines at the injection rail has the same type but different sizes.
Knowing it's a spring being held in by the roll on the out shell, the tool has to stretch the spring so the ridge on the filter will come back through it.
Sometimes the tool stops it so let the tool slide with the filter instead of trying to hold it in place firmly..
Good luck.

seems like I either get them first try or after about 30 minutes
I have the plastic tool set and they work fine, about half the time, other half is a battle
but they have never failed to work for me, eventually

I change mine regularly and have the metal one. Sometimes there is some dirt or crud stuck up in there that I blow out with air. Wear safety glasses if you do that. I'm about 50/50 on them coming out easy too.

Ain't that the truth. I remember struggling with mine last year after changing it for the first time in who knows how long. I have the metal scissor type tool as well and those years of road grime and rust really took their toll on my sanity. If I had just taken a second and slowed down I'm pretty sure it would have been done faster.

Also thought I had the line empty enough, but still ended up getting some gas on myself haha. Lessons learned, I guess.

Dirt inside the lock spring. Use some air or penetrating oil and keep working the tool in and out until it loosens up. that could sound bad. Lol
