Steering box question. Stumped!

Ok guys I just bought a new steering box from my local napa store. My old box, was original, and I have almost 300,000 miles on it. Was getting really worn out! I locked my steering wheel completely straight. And when I removed my original box, the pitman arm was almost dead straight in line with my gear box.
When I went to put the new box on the truck, after finding center on the output shaft, the pitman arm is nowhere near where my stock box alignment was. It's not even 1/4 of the way close. Any ideas? Or possibly the wrong replacement box? I can't get my pitman arm anywhere near where it should be compared to my old box set up.

It is possible the new steering box wasn't centered. Normally, before you put it back in, you could use a wrench to turn the gear full left then right to find the halfway point of the gear. Then when you install it it would line up with your steering wheel.

That's exactly what I did, but my pitman arm was nowhere near where it was on my old box. And that would throw my steering way off? Or am I wrong?? My tie rod end that goes to the pitman arm wasnt even close to lining up either?

I would compare the old and new box. if the pitman arm is off than you have the wrong box. I believe the pitman arm only goes on one way.

Sounds like you have the wrong box.
