If some of u remember last week I slammed into a huge log and it threw my steering wheel of 45 degrees, it faces 3 oclock now. Anyways, I tried getting it re aligned and they said there was an awful lot of slop in the gear box. Anyway, I have the box that is currently in the truck under lifetime warranty, so I can replace it and can get it replaced free. I want to just make sure I do it right, it looks fairly easy to do. Can someone take me step by step to removing the old gear box? Do I get a pitman arm puller and just drop the arm off the box, take the power steering lines out of the box, remove the steering colum out of the box, and the bolts holding it onto the frame, and it should come right out? Or am i am missing steps? ThANks!
That about covers it, you ain't missing anything. Just do as you laid it out.
One thing you might want to do is pop the tie rod at the pitman arm's outer end with a separator fork, then pull the pitman arm off the sector shaft once you have the steering gear box out from under the truck.
They can be a bear to get off, doing so on a bench should prove easier then under the truck. If you do not own a pitman arm puller you can rent one.
You are returning the box so you could try knocking it off with a hammer first, just don't do any undue damage to the box doing so and loose your core/exchange.

great point thank you. I will rent one tomorrow and hopefully finish the job in a few hours if all goes as planned.
