Got it out and drove it around today. Starts on mag when warm, runs and drives well on the mag in high and low. Lots more detailing to do but it is coming a long. I was able to find some good used oak to fix the very rotten pieces in the bed and was able to re-use most of the bolts and nuts.

You have done an amazing job. Nice to hear you have re-used nuts and bolts when possible. When I need to use a new nut or bolt in a place like the bed, I take a normal cad plated fastener and heat it cherry red. In a short time the plating is gone and it cools off black. Yes, it stains and streaks the surrounding wood (perfectly) You get bonus points!

Thanks guys, to tell you the truth I like working on these old projects partially because you guys like to see the progress and because it may fire you up to go work on yours. I still have lots of detailing to go in order to make it look correct and or old to match the rest of the truck. Ran out of steam yesterday though, some times too much time on a project clouds your thinking and it gets frustrating. Hanging with the family today. Going mini golfing with my parents of all things.

hood project step one
Good news so far. I managed to get the hood apart and the hinges free from the rod. I was able to straighten out the driver's side of the hood and fit it to the p/u. I need to now weld the hinges back on the passenger side and fit it to the truck. I will let you know how that goes, I can't loose much for trying.
