If you intended to snowbird in Florida are you still?
We planned on heading down in Mid-December with a first stop in St. Augustine for a week and then dropping down where we have reservations for January and February. Wonder how it will be post-storm. Anyone else wondering? We were considering switching to Texas, a much longer drive for us.
The central west coast got nothing but lots of evacuees from the east coast. I spoke with a work camper from the Canaveral area and they were heading back to clean up today, Saturday.
I would wait one - two weeks and call your intended campground, Steve. That should decide it for you..... The resorts opened for business in Orlando yesterday!!!
Florida has been through this many times and it doesn't take them long to get things cleaned up. They aren't going to let a little rain and wind affect their money season.
Last year during January in Sarasota a tornado touched 15 miles away. Hurricane Matthew made landfall not far from my NC home. Suggest you not park close to anywhere I'm stating.
We are heading down to Fort Wilderness from NJ in the start of November for 2 weeks. Hopefully it will be smooth sailing down by then. We already post poned it once last year because of my wife's injuries from a crash. We are going one way or another, detour or not.
We checked out the place we are snowbirding yesterday. They are currently not taking reservations and are rebuilding the campground. Their site said they were sending out cancellation notices to some folks now, but I think we are far enough off in January to be safe. We were staying in St. Augustine first, but since we have time, I think we will jump to Old Florida first on the west side of the state and then meander on over.
Of course if the heat here doesn't break soon, I will wonder why we are heading south for the winter.
We head to Fla. for 3 months on 12/31. We have stayed at the same campground on the Atlantic coast for the past 9yrs. Spoke with them a few days ago, & they had a few palm trees down, & as soon as they get results of water quality testing they will be up & running.
