32v 5.4 turbo options

I have 79 f100 that is getting a 4.6 finished up on it very very soon.

Well it is a 5.4 32v intech from a navigator sitting on the engine stand.
Will be fully built before boosted. Forged internals, around 9.5:1 or close to it. Worked heads and still in the air on intakes.

I am picking up a pair of cheap diesel turbos. Off of a Detroit 14l.
They are an open t6 flange and either 76/78 inducer wheel.

I am torn on what would be a better set up. I know a single 76 will make good power on the 5.4. I have seen twin .57s being used but can't find a set of twin 76mms

What would be the benefits of running higher boost on a single or lower boost and possible high compression on the twins?

What kind of HP/TQ are you looking to achieve, and what are your plans for the rest of the drivetrain with added power?

I am going to over build the engine to hold 4 digit power numbers if I decide to go that high. But likely I would stay around 750-800hp range. But I never stick to those numbers. My last Honda ended at 866. So I can only imagine I would eventually turn it up
When I swap the engines out I am swapping the trans also. I haven't decided which one would be the best but it will be a 5/6 speed. Assuming I will have to build it to hold the power also.
The rear end it still leaf spring but going threw changes after I c notch it to the ride height that I want. Originally wanted to do a thunder IRS but will probably settle for a 9" and a 4 link.

What is the main purpose of your rig; road course, drag racing or cruiser?

A single turbo requires less plumbing and will make plenty of power when sized for the application.

It is going to see both drag and road course action if I have my way.
But will also be my weekend cruiser/car show vehicle

I feel like the single would be a good option for the strip and weekend uses. Keeping it out of boost on the road would be easier.
But think the lag would kill it on the courses. It won't be a time attack truck but I would love to be able to take it and abuse it on some turns.

Is this going to be a manual or auto transmission?

Auto right now but would eventually be manual.

I personally favor an automatic over a manual for a street/strip/road course application. In extreme road course situations, a manual may be a better/more enjoyable option. Even then, an auto can be shifted manually for those conditions and it will shine over a manual at the dragstrip; consistent 60's and no missed shifts.
The next area needing attention will be the rear end. Good axles and a stout locker, like a truetrac, will be needed or something will break at that power level.

the he rear ended will likely be swapped out once I get the engine assembled again. The one in it is just temporary and to get the ride height and everything adjusted. Along with the fact that is it the same bolt pattern and was free.

The manual is strictly preference and because it will be a little different for the truck. It is an older truck and very rarely a floor shift manual. It is auto right now with the stock engine. And if am going to spend the money to build the trans I am going with what I enjoy more. Haha.
