Air Filter Warning Light sensor- Vacuum gauge on turbo intake?

Might be a dumb question...does the Air filter warning light sensor actually "read" anything?

Is it a transducer that can read the vacuum, or is it more like a snapdisc that opens and closes with a binary signal?

I'm considering adding a vacuum gauge to the intake of the turbo BEFORE changing wheels, modifying the filter box, etc to see if/how much a difference it makes.

Anyone do this already?

Dunno. All I know is an AFE stage 1 filter can't keep up with the demand of a 38R, but the bigger stage 2 filter can, without setting the air intake light.

The Air Restriction Sensor is merely and on/off switch. When vacuum pulls the plunger it eventually closes the circuit providing a signal. I want to say it closes at 15 HG. But, don[t quote me. If u want I can check mine later and let you know.

Even if the truck didn't come with one, we used to install LED's on Ambulance Dash Boards with a assembled harness we made in the Shop. Easy process.

Thanks, guys!

I'm going to go ahead and see about adding a separate vacuum gauge, then. Will have to watch it, nothing log-able

I suspect that it is dropping more than the approx 1psi, which would indicate a restriction, whether filter or housing.

I plan to check it first, then cut my AIS airbox and check. Once within the "proper" 1psi drop, I'll change the turbo wheel to the SPX wheel and see about where it is, too.

Ideally, I'd change the wheel first and see the difference between the 95 ww and the SPX, which should show up due to the restriction, but don't think I'll have the timing.

Maybe in the future I can block off the new hole in the AIS and compare it to the first measurement, trying to quantify the improvement.
