Drive shaft concern gas to diesel swap
I am in the process of swapping the 351/5.8L gas engine and the C6 Trans out of an 89 F250 HD 4wd. I have a ZF 5s42 and a 7.3L IDI non turbo I am putting in. I have the wiring harness from the diesel vehicle, the instrument panel, the radiator support for the diesel radiator and the cross member for the ZF trans. I intend to add a leaf spring on each side in the front to compensate for the additional weight of the diesel engine. I know the ZF will bolt right up to the BW 1345 Xfer case. However, I am concerned about the drive shaft lengths for the front and the rear. Per the factory shop manual the front drive shaft is the same length for the C6 and the ZF but what is unclear is whether the drive shafts (front and rear) for a gas job will be compatible with the diesel setup? Will the existing drive shafts work or will I need to find drive shafts (front and rear) that would be the proper length?
