92-93 versus 94-95 Gauges and Clusters

My 94 has the factory tach instrument cluster. I have a 93 Lightning instrument cluster that I would like to use. I know that there are some differences between 92-93 and 94-95 instrument clusters. I believe this is mostly due to the air bag and the volt meter. Anyway rather than attempt to modify the cluster to work, would it be a better idea to install the speedometer and tach from the 93 Lightning cluster into the 94 cluster leaving the gauges on the left from the 94 in place?

Why would you want to swap the speedo anyway? The truck is limited to 95

I installed a 94 Lightning cluster in my old 95, and I believe that raised the speed limiter somehow, because I had it going much faster than the factory limiter. The main reason I want to switch it, is because it's a very cool piece, and I hate looking at a pegged out speedometer while driving at 80 mph which is a common speed here.

If you swap speedometers wouldn't your truck then show whatever mileage the Lightning had on it?

Yes, it would, but I'm not concerned about that. In a year or two it won't have the original engine anyway.

What I really need to know is this. Are 93 and 94 speedometer and PSOM interchangeable?

Just swap the center speedometer, no wiring changes.

Thanks guys. That's what I needed to know. One other thing. I'm assuming that the 4 gauges on the left may not be compatible. Is this true?

When you swap the PSOM, make sure you recal the PSOM for your vehicle, your your speedo and odo could be off.

As for the gauges themselves, they appear to be pin compatible with different year clusters, BUT the indicator lights will be in different places. I have checked this out a few years ago and forgotten which was different when I swapped a F-series tach cluster into my E-series van. As for my E350, I went and repined the harness for the F-series cluster, added the tach wire to ignition coil tach side and had no issues(PSOM different story)

Also changing the speedo or cluster does NOT change the speed limiter since the lightnings are limited to 95 as well

I'm fairly certain that Lightnings are not limited to the same speed. I've been in one that was brand new, and we were going 110 or 115. Either way, that is not my reason for wanting to swap the speedometer.

I definitely plan to recalibrate the PSOM. I recalibrated the original one for 31 10.50 tires. It actually reads a bit too fast at highway speed now. I suppose it might need to be calibrated for a different size tire.

This article states they are limited to 110 mph.

Thats funny because any of the ones I have been in(a dozen or so) shut down at 95. And again the speedometer has Nothing to do with the speed limiter .

And BTW the link doesnt work
