1976 Super Cab Restore

Your Welcome good to doo...It calls for you to coat it a few times on the directions on the can. I really like the stuff and has saved on some tanks that can be hard to find.

I got out and worked a little on the truck. I am on my second can of PB Blaster as I am going around and soaking all the bolts and some cable linkages that look to be frozen. I soak the bolts and have been slowly working some on the front clip as I am getting ready to pull the front clip to remove the motor.
I have soaked the cylinders in Marvel Mystery Oil. Today I tried turning the motor at the Crankshaft and it did turn. Not a good thing, as it turns way to easily so that has me concerned. I will eventually tear the motor down and see what its issue is.
Another problem I have found and is to be expected is the floor boards are not in as great a shape as I was hoping. Not many trucks in our area that wont have floor board issues.
Drivers Side not to bad,
Passenger Side is worse then drivers side.

I am slowly working on getting some nuts and bolts loosened to start removing the front clip and bed. So far I have not broken any bolts so that is a plus for me. A big part of doing a restore is a lot of cleaning. A couple of things I like to use is this contraption that is good for cleaning carburators, nuts and bolts... is to take an old palm sander and fasten a cookie pan to the pad, then with a small bucket with some foam to keep the bucket from moving use some sand to clean small brackets or similar items.
Sometimes I will use a plastic coffee can with a lid with some Simple Green and water in the palm sander for cleaning. The above picture, the cookie tin is permanently mounted to the sander with sheet metal screws. The bucket or coffee can just sits in the cookie tin and I can use either the coffee can or bucket depending on if I am using liquid or sand.
Look into Electrolysis Cleaning. Plenty of videos out there. It is a great way of letting things get de-rusted.

I got the truck in the shop. I am trying to get the bumpers off to get a little more room. I am taking it a part in sections as my shop is not big enough as shortly we are going to be getting cold and I will need the stove.
One of the bumper bolts is not wanting to break loose. I am worried about stripping head or snapping the bolt. I ran a ratchet strap and soaked the bolt in some more penetrating oil and hope the pressure will break the bolt loose. Desperation in action...

I did get the bumper removed from the front of the truck. I took a picture and do like the looks of not having the guards on. Not sure if the black strips will be staying on. This truck takes the full length of my shop. Trying to get some parts off of it for a winter project or with the bed and front clip off, I am hoping I can keep it in the shop for the winter.
I marked the hood but it has been removed by the previous owner. I did not like how it was aligned up before and setting body gaps can be harder then what you might think. Other wise I would of drilled some small pilot holes.
My friend brought this truck home for me on his trailer. When I bring a project home, I like to hit the car wash and clean it as best as I can. Every little bit helps. When I am using the Impact Wrench, all kinds of debris is falling down on me. I did get the drive shaft out and am still working on other bolts to get the front clip and bed off. So far no broken bolts. Yeah!!!!
Got a Haynes Manual for some reference material. I am sure Factory Service Manuals are on line but like having a hard copy available. Most of the way I learned mechanics is with Haynes. Got a blow torch to help with some bolts.

I knew this truck had been painted before and it has some over spray on several area. The passenger fender has been bumped and is wavy. I will replace it. It could probably be fixed but I dont think my skills are good enough to get it straight. I can fix dent and dings and do my own paint and body work.
My oldest son heard me running the Impact wrench and enjoys running the tools. He helped out quite a bit.
I showed him how to cut and chiesel off a rusted and broken bolt. He liked that real well and did a great job.
Had him to put the bolts back to where they came from. I tried that bagging bolts and it can get confusing on reassembly. Keeps track of them and lets me know if I am missing any thing or if I need to get some replacements.
I got the front end off and he was ready to pull the motor. It was getting late and I need to make some notes of some things that I need to refer to for reassembly at a later time. When I get the motor out, I will use Easy Off for getting all the grease and grime off of the engine and frame.
I am breaking this truck down in sections so that I can bring a piece in at a time and get the parts refurbished.
My son did learn a lesson on making sure tools cant be knocked over. He had the cut off saw on a ledge and it fell and broke the wheel.

Hello good to doo.. That would make it handy for moving a clip around. I was looking at your truck and I like the color and is the reason I got my truck just because it was green. I turned down a red and a yellow truck. I am hoping I can get the same green as yours. I also like your tail gate and the chrome and black strip on it. I am going to try and add it to mine or find a tail with the pieces on it. Yours is a loaded option truck and is nice. Something I am going to make a goal of mine to be quite similar in ways. Nice truck you have.

I think I have everything disconnected. Only one bolt that wont come out due to the starter not letting the motor mount bolt come out. I will need to drop the starter to get it. Will be getting ready for Thanksgiving but hope to get some time to get the motor out over the holiday. Hope everyone has a great Thanksgiving.

I did get the motor out. I have found Easy Off is the best cleaner for getting gunk off of things. I started scrapping some things and got the big stuff off but still a long ways to go to getting the front half cleaned up. I will start trying to get the bed off next and clean a handful of parts I have off already.

Your truck has quite a few options on it, I see you have the nice looking slot type wheels. I feel your pain with the floor, moisture under the rubber mat stays there. Great color, light and dark Jade green are 2 of my favorites. Heater core with factory AC a bit daunting but doable. Best of luck on the resto. Should be a 460, 429's didn't come in the trucks till the 80's in the big truck lines as replacements for the 361 and 391.
