An oil leak question

thank you for opening my thread

Ok, I am currently in the market for a 1995-1997 F350 7.3, CC, auto, LB 4x4. I live in the California Bay Area and these rigs are becoming VERY hard to find. The few I have looked at ALL leak a boatload of oil when parked. And I dont want to deal with cleaning my and other peoples driveways.

Do ALL these years 7.3's leak oil like this?

the dipstick to oil pan seal is known to leak and can be fixed with out dropping the pan

other leaks just need to be found

If there is a fuel leak, it will look like an oil leak as it cleans out the valley and dips off back of motor

many people cant afford taking to a shop to fix these leaks

Yeah I'd say the dipstick tube would be common in CA vs the more common rotted oil pan here in the North East.

If you like a clean driveway, these beasts might not be your best option ha!

I was using a drip pan in my driveway while working on mine

I now park it on the dead grass

not the tube but the adapter that's in the pan that the tube goes into

At 345000 MI mine is a garage queen... I promise oil leaks are way uncool. There are a lot of potential causes. Most root causes are no big deal if diagnosed properly and repairs mostly are o-rings, dipstick adapter or hosses.
The big issues are people are stupid and just run stuff untill it falls apart then buy another .

Knottyrope, Psu4me and Fordman67,

Thank you for your replies.
I think im just going to have to accept any of these rigs with over 100k miles are going to leak. And of course any of them under 200k miles are going to be $$$

If you have the time, money and tools, you can get the leaks to stop.

Thanks, it took me a while to find that on Craigslist and the person never posted a pic online. I saw his ad for a few weeks and decided why not ask. Then once I saw it, I pounced on it. I found a for sale sign in the back seat the other night. Didn't know the center flipped down. it was listed at 10k at one point in time in past 3 years. Also it was from AZ and not rusty at all. Hasn't seen much road salt.

There are lots of little leaks that can be easily fixed. Just don't let some mechanic tell you the rear seal is leaking... and let them pull the engine ! This forum can tell you how to fix most anything on these trucks...find you a deal & buy a SD !

'97 260,000 miles no leaks
97 160,000 miles no leaks
'95 150,000 miles oil pan has slight leak
'99 340,000 miles no leaks
2000 202,000 miles no leaks

as stated stay on top of maintenance I will park everything but the '95 on a brick driveway and not worry about oil stains.

just haven't had the ambition to pull the engine on the 95 and re seal the pan.
the '95 was a ranch truck and not treated too well and maintained by people who didn't know what they were doing.
