Heavy Towing Question

I’m looking at a 40ft 5-th wheel with a total weight of just under 16000lbs and a tongue weight of around 2300.
I do have the full airride , which is more than capable of handling the weight. Any other concerns or things i need to upgrade?

thanks guys

stefan

I don't think you will have a problem with any hard parts . Just watch egt . I'm curious how well you like the rear air ride with that load. Your setup looked awesome when you were installing it.

thank.
i do like my air ride and with pulling a bumper pull , which has 800lbs tongue weight, plus loaded the bed up with another 500lbs, she is riding just fine. And in addition, the Air ride is always a good conversation piece at camp grounds :-)

As for my Drive Train, i do know, that my driveshafts are not 100% balanced. any idea as to where i might find some upgraded shafts ? or should i just get mine balanced?

thanks

ok...
I found a different fifth wheel trailer..
BIG QUESTION: can I safely pull it home?
its a 40ft Teton homes, Gross weight is listed at 22000lbs. Not certain about empty. Tongue weight is close to 5000lbs.
I can get a Husky 24000lbs hitch.
Can I safely pull that load home? I got to go 150mls. After that , I consider getting a larger truck, even though the current owner been pulling his camper with a 95 F350 and the 460Gas engine ....
... wife says I worry too much...

Yep.... It's heavy. Current owner said he had his truck modified.. But not sure what he did... I will look at it...
I just hate the thought of buying a fifth wheel hitch, and then not being able to pull that monster until I buy me a large truck , i.e. Fl70 freight liner or along the lines of F650 :-)

Mine is 4K tongue weight (25% of total) and over all weight of 17K. I air my bags up to 90lbs and I sit level but when I drop that tongue weight down on the OX she groans! lol Total length is 37' but these Mobile Suites are known for more tongue weight then most. The reason is all the tanks are up front and its got a hugh storage area up front. I pack to much shi! and carry 100 gallons of fresh water. When I was on my way to RRE and broke down this fresh water sure came in handy. My Trailer Saver hitch is rated at 18K so I'm close.

So, I guess since the Teton will be entirely empty , no water in any tanks, I should be ok pulling it home .. I will be going not over 55 anyway, because it's all highway.
As for the airbags, mine are rated at 6200lbs each :-) and with 800lbs on the pull behind tongue, I run about 25 lbs. but that is estimated, because I have auto right height. so if I drop 4500lbs onto the rear axle, the truck wont go down

Good grief those Tetons were heavy! You gotta post one photo! I think you'll be fine. I'd be real curious to know how the guy with 460 was doign it though. I have owned a 460 and it pulled 9k pounds very poorly.

I wonder what a 460 with one of our turbos would be like...

Do you have it registered for enough weight?

Around here that is the biggest concern

Why do you want SOOO big?!?! Moving into it or something?
Personally I don't want anything my truck can't pull..

But truck is life so I am biased...
