Lowering my 62 f100

Im wanting to lower my 62 f100. The previous owner cut quite a few leafs out of the rear and its very spongy. I contacted djm but they dont make any kits for anything older then 65. I would like to to do 2-3" in the front and 4" in the rear. Any suggestions, links, advice would be greatly appreciated.

If you plan to keep the straight front axle, Sid sells a drop axle Dropped Ford axles, Spindles and tie rods. Guthrie Oklahoma

If you want to swap it out to independent front suspension, there are various other options ranging from Mustang II style kits, Dodge Dakota kits, Jaguar, Crown Vic, etc...you can search the site for various installations and opinions of each. Hope that helps a little.

I was looking for something a little simpler. Drop spindles, springs or something along those lines

2.5-3" from stock is about the most that is realistic without significant modifications. Much lower than that and you get to a point where you are riding on the snubbers, which can give a false indication of the actual ride height and when they wear out, you might actually be hitting the frame, which is not good.

Even at only 2.5-3", you will have to resolve shock angle issues in the rear and I'm not aware of any of-the-shelf product that addresses that issue, so it is custom, which means, if you can't do it yourself, expensive.

Front shocks are pretty easy since they are quite long to begin with and stay vertical.

Another thing to realize is that most of these trucks are worn out. The bushings are bad, the springs are sagging, so for instance, a 3" drop spring may only change the ride height by 2-2.5" from where it currently is.

If the front springs are generally in good shape, you may be able to have a local spring shop flip the top leaf and re-arch them for the desired ride height. While the spring is out, replace all bushings. That will be the most cost effective.
Probably the 2nd most cost effective is to install monoleaf springs.

Since the rear is missing leafs, it will probably be easier to replace those entirely, and start with new. You can get reversed eye springs or monoleaf springs for the rear.

This is mine after the DJM drop kit. Front beams and shackles and hangers for the rear. I didn't cut the front springs any. Some do, I didn't. Had the front end alignment and it hasn't been touched since. I also installed the drop shocks that they recommend with this kit. This was done in 2008 or 2009 if I remember correctly. I know there's a company that offers a better system now that does away with the beams and you can use a rack and pinion. It's not the crown Vic swap. I'll try and look it up. The DJM system has a good ride to it also. More expensive now than when I done mine. Hope this helps you.

Seven year old thread - in the wrong forum, to boot . It looks like Tattman84 hasn’t logged on since he made this post in 2016.
