Cable connected to transfer case broken. what is it?
I have a 77 highboy and there's a broken cable that goes from the transfer case up into the main wiring. I don't know what it is, but I'd like to get it fixed before I find out the hard way. I've had the truck for about a month and haven't put it into 4wd yet. thanks.

X2 on welcome to FTE and x2 on best it is a speedo cable. Because there is NO cable used to put it in 4wd, it is lever and linkage.
I have to ask, did you NOT put it in 4wd HI and LO when you test drove it?
Be careful removing the cluster and disconnecting the cable from the back side of it.
There is a walk thru on how to remove the instrument cluster somewhere in here. https://www.ford-trucks.com/forums/1...then-some.html

thanks guys, it was the speedometer cable. clipped the cable and disconnected it from the speedometer. I had to put the cluster back in so nothing would get in the hole while I wait for a new cable to arrive in the mail. the guy I bought it from said the 4 HI and LO worked just fine, I should've tested it anyways. thanks again.
