exhaust fabrication help

They're made in many configurations - donuts (fiber and steel), half donut/half flat, donuts with sleeves, flat gaskets, cast *****, bolt down, spring bolts, etc.
It's been 30 some years since I've bent pipe. Back then custom duals ran $200 - $300.
Some manifolds are better than others, typically headers will flow better but not always. Then there's the short (in comparison) life, bolts coming loose, fitment issues, noise, etc. #1 mistake made by many is going too large with pipe diameter. Too big can slow down velocity and scavenging and increases how much atmospheric pressure the engine has to overcome. Most small blocks should stick with 1 7/8 - 2" for duals, 2 1/4" for highly modified.

Hey Geoff thats a nice looking set up. Are there any wrecking yards at all over there??
I did mine the poorboy way. I took the exhaust from my donor. It was a long wheel base and wasn't all that old plus It had all the bends I needed to get around the rear end and transmission mount I made. With the extra length I was able to cut it down, move the 22" glass packs further back and behind the cab giving me a little quieter and deeper sound. Used my little wire welder and welded it up and bolted it in. Not the prettiest, shiniest but working great. So if you do have a wrecking yard around you, you could find a wrecked newer model and remove the exhaust and cut it down. Then you may only need the ends going to your manifold bent. Since mine was fitted to and came off the 302 in the donor truck it fitted right up. I did order two newer manifolds. my old ones had a crack and busted ear on the bolt end. Good luck again that a good looking power plant.

I think this might be the video you are thinking about John.
Exhaust Header Bash! Testing Power Loss From Dents - Engine Masters Ep. 4 - YouTube
Beat the heck out of the header and it makes more power. No need for smooth curves.

Hey Mike thanks for checking in to all that stuff. Ya that one recycle place in Lihue just scraps stuff and doesn't sell it to individuals. They said my best but was to hit up the tow truck guys before they bring stuff in. so its a long waiting game I gave up on. shipping and travel between islands is pretty pricey too. So this is not the best hobby for an islander but these old trucks are just so much more fun than new stuff.
also ya that video really does show they can take some abuse.
