Project BigBlueX facelift and full paint starts August 1st

I've gathered up a bunch of new parts for the Ex and I'll be dropping it off on the first. I went with the Harley grill, headlights, and 2013 rear bumper. I'm removing all the cladding and having the rear holes filled in. Also I picked up some F250 factory fender flares which happen to be a perfect fit on our Excursions with no mods needed. I wonder why Ford never thought to put them on our trucks from the factory? And lastly I was going to put the amp steps but I had a last minute change of heart and picked up some brand new 2016 take off running boards for half the cost. I think the chrome boards will help tie in the whole look nicely. Here are some shots of how it sits now. I'll update this thread once it's complete.

It should look very sharp! Your blue is my favorite color for these big wagons, will you be going with a contrasting color on the flares or matching the blue?

I'm losing the two tone. I really like the blue Harley Davidson look on the F250, that's why I decided to go that route minus the flames.

What a good round about amount will the paint job cost, because I had a shop tell me $12k for a complete color change. I about laughed in their face.

I too am partial to True Blue...I added the 2006 chrome upgrade grill to my '05 back in 2006 as well as chrome tow hooks and mirror covers...so from the front mine looks just like the HD version of back then. (I even have a tshirt with that front view that Ford sold back in the day...)

I've been toying on and off with getting the AMP steps for it...but have yet to do anything....

Looking forward to seeing your progress...

I too love your current color combo, but can't wait to see the "Custom" look!! I think its so cool when we put our own touches to the old factory style!

Should I debadge the Ex or not? I'm on the fence with this. On one hand it would look so clean debadged but will it look too empty with nothing on the fenders. What do guys think?

What about just painting the Excursion lettering the same color?

Yep debadge it is. Like you say I can alway put it back on later.

All the cladding came off this morning along with the running boards. It looks way better without the running boards. Should've just pulled the trigger on the amp steps. Maybe down the road but for now I'll be putting the new F250 takeoff boards I bought.

I'm one who likes the badge. To me it takes some of a finished look away. JMHO.
I also love the color and 2 tone trim but monotone looks very good. Mine is all black.
I'm also curious what the price tag would be. Ideally I'd like to repaint mine and remove a couple of hail dents.

I have a shop near me that does great work. The guy always has old muscle cars and hot rods being worked on and painted. I went there and it was so clean and I saw his work up close. He gave me a quote of 4k for ppg paint with 3 layers of clear coat. It was the higher end clear also. There is minimal body work needed like realign my doors and fix little dents and dings. All the lights and doors will actually be removed for the job to get the door jams painted as well.

Keep in mind I did some prepping as well by removing the bumpers, cladding, grill and running boards
