New 2016 5.0 V8 Supercrew 4x4 Owner.. Gas Mileage
Four years ago, I traded in my 2008 Benz for a brand-new 2012 Ford F150 XLT Screw 4x4 with a 5.5' bed. It served me so well for four years and I liked it so much I traded it in for a new 2016 Ford F150 XLT Screw 4x4 with a 6.5' bed and 302A package along with center console (don't like gear selector on the floor but like having space between two front seats).
My 2012 F150 with the 5.0 V8 engine got around 22 mpg, and the new 2016 F150 with the 5.0 V8 has been getting 28 miles per gallon. Both had the 3.55 ratio, maybe the aluminum has that much effect. It definitely handles much better now. Maybe after the engine gets broken in, I could get 30 miles per gallon... Is that wishful thinking?
Anybody else also getting 28 mpg on their F150 Supercrew 4x4 with V8?
I'm a proud tree-hugging bleeding-heart liberal who bought a 5.0 Supercrew 4x4 with a V8. It gets great gas mileage.

I was getting 99 MPG on my 2015 Screw for maybe 30 minutes or so. Of course this was going downhill with a tailwind from 7,000' elevation. Once I got down to the point where we were actually going up & down hills things got closer to reality. However, it maintained 40 MPG for another 30-40 miles.
By the time we got back to the Bay Area, going through a little stop-and-go, and traffic lights, etc., we got down to around 22 MPG.
It was fun while it lasted.

Are you hypermiling? Please share your driving techniques and the terrain where you've been driving. My display showed 24.9mpg during my 21 mile morning commute. But I hit nearly every light and right-laned the entire drive at the speed limit.
And what's the actual hand calculated mpg for your truck for an entire tank of fuel? Ford's calculator is notorious for being higher than actual. Mine is anywhere from 1-2mpg over my hand calculations.

Yes, I'm hypermiling and am good at it. That was the reason why I didn't want the 3.5 Ecoboost, I could not get more than 20 mpg while it was much easier for me to get 24 mpg out of the V8. Some cars seem immune to my hypermiling techniques.
I try to avoid red lights and drive an extra 2 miles on my 30-minute commute just to avoid stop lights.
The 28 mpg was all highway from my area to the LAX airport. On the way back, I got 26.5 mpg after about an hour including 4 or 5 minutes in traffic. I don't think there was any tailwind since it wasn't windy at all. It's pretty flat from Orange County to LAX Airport and back.
On my 2012, the mpg on the computer was very accurate. Not sure about this one, have not filled up the gas tank yet and I am now at 755 miles and 1/8 full (36-gallont tank option). I filled it up when it had 9 miles and was brand new. That would mean I am already getting 21 mpg even though my driving is about 30% city or traffic, 70% highway going 60 to 65 mph. I still have quite a bit of gasoline left.

If your dealer is worth his salt, he can adjust the setting for "AFE Bias", which will correct for any errors in the computer-calculated mileage. By default the AFE Bias is set to 1000, and you increase/decrease the bias to correct for what is displayed on the console.

My right foot has too much fun to get anywhere close to that kind of efficiency, but it can be done under the right driving conditions.
