Drone from my 6.0

Hi all, just got in after a 2 hour trip in my 6.0.

Either it was me going crazy or I started to notice a hum or a drone coming from the front that wasn't the usual clatter of the diesel engine. Think Civic with a fart can except 5 miles away. It was that sound coming from the engine. As revs were higher the sound would be more pronounced. If I was cruising then took my foot off the pedal the drone would go away.

Sometimes I get turbo lag. Also some oil has been leaking out of the pan because I didn't tighten the screw far enough (everyone says to not tighten it too much....) so I've put some more back in. Other than an oil change that I did about a week ago I do not know last when fluids were changed, I just recently came into ownership of this truck. I have no prior experience with turbo diesels.

Could there be a problem with my turbo system? Exhaust system?
Thanks!

See if you can get a video of it and attach it here. Yes, it could be coming from the turbo.

I will see if I can get a video with acceptable sound quality.

What could be happening?

Aftermarket exhaust? Check the exhaust down pipe from the turbo, it has a bad habit of touching a cross member or the firewall and vibrating. Stock exhaust, could be a band clamp that's loose causing a vibration.

If your oil plug isn't sealing well, there's a copper washer you can replace. P/n 3C3Z-6734-AA. Or get a Fumoto valve, mine was installed once and hasn't leaked a drop in 60k miles:

I wouldn't imagine an aftermarket exhaust but I'll check.

There does seem to be a fiber board type liner on the firewall that's coming loose. Maybe it's vibrating against the pipes? I'll check for other vibrations but that could (hopefully) just be it.

Turbo lag seems to be a random problem, not reoccurring. Hopefully there's nothing wrong with my turbo system. However, there is a high chance since my truck is essentially a DD mall crawler.

That Fumoto plug looks interesting, I guess the exposed threads go into the pan and then there is a system inside that allows fuel to flow through when the lever is turned?

Thanks for the information so far!

Usually when the turbo wheel touches the turbo housing, it makes a squealing or scraping noise. An exhaust leak can sound like a low pitched rumble but that noise would increase when you accelerate.

Here are some pictures I snapped. I'll be taking it out for a drive soon with a good sound recording device to try to get an accurate sample.

Exhaust leading down from turbo

Took a look at some diagrams and I see that the turbo outlet goes right down past the exhaust expansion joint. Could it be that after the long drive it got hot enough to expand and touch?

Does it happen all the time or only in a certain rpm range?

I have a loud drone between 1800 and 2000 rpm only. I think it might be exhaust related but I have not looked deep into it.
