engine dies occasionally on deceleration

That doesn't sound likely. Over the course of years, there are always at least stray codes in there. Many DTC tools are not compatible with our antiquated J1850 PWM protocol.

I would imagine it's not fuel related. That wouldn't make sense to me anyway. He has fuel then let's off and the pump stops or it doesn't have enough pressure. I've been wrong before but a fuel pump is making the most amount of psi at idle or on deceleration. For the engine to die because of too much fuel is well backward... but that's just me and if I'm wrong it wouldn't be anything new

So I have the scan software and the cable. I have been through the software and there are some codes but it states that they could be old so I will reset everything then drive it around and see what happens.
I could use some help in knowing what to look at, I know that I will monitor the IPR and ICP but what else would be good to look. Aslo any help in knowing how to use the software would also be greatly appreciated.
More info: it is starting to die more often and getting really hard to restart. It has also been hard to start it after it has been shut down for a long time. I did get a code on the last hard start which stated something about a long crank problem.
Thanks

I too have an 02 that recently started some unique issues. I won't take over your thread as I have started my own, but the 2002's are something unique as I've read stories like this across the InterWeb.
For this issue, the IPR was always the suspect. Sorry that wasn't your issue. I'll keep watching this thread in hopes a resolution for you might shine light on my issue. Good luck!

What am I doing wrong?
I thought that I was clearing the DTC logs but the cel stays on now where before it would go out and the codes are still in the DTC file. I am trying to clear it with forscan software in the DTC section and I click on the clear log button.
What else do I need to do?
Thanks
