Horn contact and spring

Hey gents. I just replaced my turn signal switch but I realized at some point I lost the contact piece and spring for the horn.

So can I McGyver it using a pen spring and piece of brass rod?

Or, Should I just order the horn brush assembly that is available?

Just order it, the brass rod will wear through the contact plate.

I always get a few extra ones at the PnP JY when someone has already removed the steering wheel and it's just sitting their or laying on the floor of the vehicle.

It never hurts to have a few of those small back up parts that are not easy to buy off the shelf that loco parts stores don't carry..

C2OZ-13A821-A .. Horn Brush / Reproduced by Carpenter.

1961/72 F100/250 2WD / 1966/72 F100 4WD / 1967/72 F250 4WD & F350 // Misc. 1960/66 Passenger Cars.

Note: Carpenter does not supply the horn brush insulator that this Ford part number (as a kit) includes with the brush.

If you need both, let me know, dozens are available NOS

Just this morning I was fixing my (intermittent) horn. I scuffed and cleaned all components and got it working reliably. However, when I scuffed the Dennis Carpenter brush over sandpaper, I lost about 1/8" of it. It's made of a very soft graphite-like material. The Ford brush withstood the sanding. I think making one might be a good idea, using copper rod instead of brass.

Go to one of your local Hobby/craft stores and find one of the big pencils. The usually have about a 1/8" graphite core.
Cut off a piece of the pencil then remove the wood casing and install.

Your 1972 is different, doesn't have an insulator.

The brush is the same 1961/72, but it's located in a different place 1971/72 so doesn't use the insulator.

1961/70: The horn brush and insulator fit into a hole on the outside of the 3 spoke steering wheel, visible when the horn button or horn ring is removed.

1971/72's use a 2 spoke wheel with a horn pad. Here's a pic, the brush is shown as 13A824

Thank you ND. That's definitely what I need.

LMC HAS THEM FOR $14. I didn't see one offered in NPD's catalog.

In the DC catalog, it calls for 2 of these?
For 1961-72 F100/250 application order C20Z-13A821-A

http://cdnll.dennis-carpenter.com/im...Z-13A821-A.jpg

I only have on slot.

I don't believe my column is the original though and I don't have the original steering wheel. It's an after market.

But does this look like the correct one?

C2OZ-13A821-A is the horn brush. Pic in Ford truck catalog shows a different number (13A824), because at one time, the brush and insulator were sold by themselves. Ford later came out with the C2OZ kit.

May have been for the Cruise control setup.

My steering wheel came off a motor home which had two of them with two contacts points on the under side of the wheel where the non-cruise control wheels has one.

Whatever you do, don't buy the replacement from Napa. I bought one there that they swore would fit and it was too short.
