Is there such thing as a weak starter motor? Won't turn over...

Well low and behold, the cylinder closest to the driver seat was full of water. It blasted into my face after being deflected by the bottom of the hood as I shorted out the fender relay to turn the starter. I didn't taste any coolant. I did notice some water beads on the air cleaner when I removed it... I'm curious if the hood seal is bad and water slowly trickled into the air cleaner and subsequently creeped into that cylinder. The GP was also bad in that cylinder; rest tested fine.

I have heard of water leaking into the intake from a bad cowl seal ... I wouldn't bet on it personally!

Hood seal location of leak. It is loose and I pushed it down to show emphasis. That leaks directly onto the air cleaner housing!
Note that I did NOT taste any coolant.

yea, that has happened a few times.
i would get that hood seal replaced pronto.
how long has it had water in it now?
it may not have rusted and be ok.
on edit i see it has been sitting for about 9 months.
without pulling it apart, it is gonna be kind of a crap shoot as to whether it is good or not. i wonder if you can get a bore scope down the glow plug hole to inspect the cylinder walls for rust?

If the engine turns over, put some penetrating oil down it and crank it a few times, then see if you can get it to run. Chances are the rust will get cleaned off by the rings and be OK...
Realistically, what do you have to lose? If it's too badly rusted, they'll have to sleeve it anyway, and you'll probably replace the rings and piston... so just run it if you can.
