Easier 3G conversion possibly and MarkVIII fan question

Hey Guys,

I want to do the 3G conversion because I think I am going to go Electric fan but I don't know if I want to splice Junkyard wire that is in questionable condition. I came across this plug in play kit and wanted to know what you think.

Other Products - Conversion Plugs - PA Performance.com

I also found this harness kid on ebay that seems pretty clean but does it really need to cost that much? I do not know anything about relays besides what they do but is 200+ reasonable for this.

cooling fan issue

On the cooling fan issue:
There a lot of ways to skin this cat. look at http://www.davebarton.com/pdf/coolingfandiagrams.pdf just to see some of the different ways to wire this project. It also shows why there is a large range of cost with the pre-packaged wiring harness that you can buy. There is a lot of information on this site and others. But the fan harness (that you asked about) seem to have all of the options.

The PA Performance harness is a decent option if your wiring is questionable. However, electrical components are relatively low cost. At $220, it's mostly labor that yer paying for with the fan harness for a plug n play installation....relays, plugs, temperature sensor, etc.

Visit the links in the tech info compilation for options....

For the relay kit, check out Hollister Road Co. I bought one for my electric fan swap and was very impressed with how detailed and neat all the wiring was bundled as well as the product's functionality.

My suggestion is to look at getting a complete wire harness for your truck and getting it made custom. I mean, I would be more concerned with the 40ish year old wiring in your truck than the 20ish year old wiring you would get from JY. And at the price of the stuff you are looking at, you could add a few hundred more and get the complete truck harness.

I'm not to worried about the factory wiring at the J/Y if you inspect the plugs and make sure the wire covering is not cracked or brittle. I have found that the factory does an excellent job of protecting there wires and using high grade stuff.

I used a Volvo dual fan relay and wired low speed key hot and high speed with AC on and have had no problems in the 13k miles I've put on the truck in AZ I think I have less than $75 including the fan price. Google Mark 8 fan relays there is a ton of info here is one example.

I just made a new fan shroud to cover the hole radiator this week.

2x... I too am using the Volvo relays and Mark VIII fan. It is controlled by an Edelbrock E-Street EFI. The fan was $30 and the relays $8.

Well the wiring that came with the fan was brittle and weathered so I wasn't planning on using it because I don't need my pretty new engine to become a camp fire. I was hopping not to rewire the whole truck since most of the stuff seems to be in good shape when I bought it. It was carport kept for the most part by the PO. I was hoping to just replace stuff as I go.

Axelgwn, The Ebay harness seems to be a good fit to run off both A/C and toggle switch outputs. Hollister Road Co. has more options: Hollister Road Company: Mark VIII Taurus Fan Relay 185F 200F is an alternitive to look into. $150.00 I am assuming that you have/or want A/C, both fan speeds and cab switch over ride. Look at the Hollister Road web site they may have one tailored to you. Hope this helps.

3x on the Volvo relay. I've done to the other way and this is much better. My FiTech EFI controls the Mark8 fan and also kicks it on low when the AC comes on. I have it hooked up to a champion 4 core. Was 95 in my shop today, was at idle for an hour with the AC on ans never got over 180 and that was with the low fan only.
