Rear end roaring

After putting my front end back together except new springs, new shocks, and new track bar, just to give everyone a little history of what I've done to it. I've had it for 8 months and maybe put 1000 miles if that because of working out of town a lot and the front end torn apart. I've noticed a louder roar coming from the rear end when taking my foot off the accelerator without pressing the brake. It feels like the tow button is engaged, but isnt. I have no issues with handling besides knowing it still needs alignment. I'm taking it to the dealership tomorrow for a 4 wheel alignment. It sounds and feels like I'm riding on mud terrain tires. Any thoughts?

throttle off deceleration whine is usually a pinion bearing.

are you having the dealership align it to try and correct a wander or just a general alignment ?

I did find a leak, but wasn't able to track it down exactly because of poor lighting.

I replaced all the ball joints in the front and also took out the front axle to paint. So it only for a general alignment.

Make sure your fluid levels are where they need to be then look into the rear hubs for signs of leakage... It's most likely the rear but start with the cheap stuff first, you may get lucky

Turns out pirate, you was close. It was the pinion seal.

I'm fighting a similar noise right now, though, I wouldn't classify it as a roar. Starting at about 30mph I can hear a whine that seems to be coming from the rear end. It's there on accel, decel, cruising speed, etc...

Are you sure it was the pinion seal and not a worn pinion bearing that was tightened up a little during the seal replacement?

As mav points out,
the seal is likely not the real problem but a result of a bearing going bad.

Even the Timken seals on Rockauto aren't $20 - I think they're under $10 . I had one changed with a Timken on my F250 several years ago - paid $12 from Amazon. Be a cold day when I pay $75 from a dealer for a pinion seal.

When I had it align, a Ford tech said that it was leaking. That's his .02. I definitely have a pinion seal leak, that's a no brainer. But since I'm replacing the seal, I guess I should replace the bearing also and my brother suggested that I should replace the wheel bearings so I'm starting on a clean slate.
