Genuine 4X4?

My 2003 wiring diagram book refers to regular or genuine 4X4 in the pages on electric shift. First time I have heard of this terminology and it appears to be electric or manual shift? Genuine 4X4 seems to only have a switch for the dash indicators and no 4X4 control module. Can anyone confirm?

I looked in the Ford manual for my 2004 and there was no reference to any regular or genuine 4X4. Maybe it was referring to a manual shift or an electric shift transfer case?

My manual does show a 4X4 control module. My own truck has the electric shift 4WD. I don't think the 2004 had the manual shift transfer case as an option.
