Need Advice. E350 fuel pump issues..
i was using my truck for work and on one of my last stops i put the truck in drive and it died. I started it again and it would idle for about 15 seconds then die. If i try to step on the gas it will stahl automatically. I do some work on my vehicles but never a fuel pump. My mechanic is telling me the bolts for the tank are rotted and he wants to replace the pump and tank. Quoted me 2500$$$ Is there any trick or things i can do to save money. Is it a job worth doing myself. He quoted me 600 for the fuel pump which is outrageous. Any advice thank you

First thought.........shop around for a new mechanic......
Replacing a fuel pump is not real hard, and there are some posts on here for the R&R of the fuel pump and tank, and Yes, the tank needs to be dropped to remove the fuel pump/sending unit.
Just a quick check on the parts - pump alone $70-115, assembly unit $90-300,
tank (mid-ship) $430 and Tank and Pump $630. Tank Straps $25.
So that would give you an idea on what the parts cost compared to the quote you got.
Time wise, you jacking up the van, crawling under it a few times......a good 1/2 day.
But.......is the fuel pump the cause of your stalling?? Did the mechanic do a fuel pressure test and determined that the pump was at fault?
Also, your van is an 08, and the tank should not be in that bad of shape that it would need replacing. Common for the straps to be rusty, but not the tank.
