Tried a 2013 Platinum and a 2016 Lariat... Platinum Shook...{:+ Few Questions?<

So I test drove both, but the Platinum, which had the 3.7 EB, 3.31 Gears 40k miles engine shook and seemed to have a miss on it. It was less when it warmed up but still irritating. They said it was a commercial lease?

Then I drove the New 2016 3.7 EB, Lariat, 3.55Gears, loaded with goodies, and it was a smooth as a chicken's butt... (not really sure if a chickens butt is smooth, but it sounded good...) It really rode nice and jumping off the line with direct gas pedal action threw me back into my seat!

I could really like one of these guys. I have a MasterCraft Boat, and I was thinking that the 3.55 gears would be better than the 3.31. ?

I tow about 4 hours round trip, and i would use the truck to go to work during the week.

What setup would you go with?

here's my current tacoma 2008

If I could afford the 2016 I'd go that route. Lease vehicles sometimes live a hard life.

I like the idea of the 5.0 In some of my limited learning, they say the 5.0 will last longer because the turbos on the EB 3.5 will need to be replaced...?

But i do like quiet...lol I'm old now...just turned 50

Thanks for reminding me, yes they do

With the supercrew Platinum, do you guys like the 6.5 bed or does it make the truck look to long?

Whatever you do, the F-150 with the 3.5L EB is _WAY_ more motor than the 4.0L in the Tacoma. We have one of each, and if I'm towing, I will always prefer the F-150. The F-150 (supercrew) back seat alone is almost more box than the Tacoma has.

Who says the 5.0 will last longer? Ford's done a LOT of work to make the EB turbos bullet-proof. There's no entry in the scheduled maintenance log for a 3.5EB that says "turbo replacement required". If they do fail, you can buy the turbos for about $600/ea.

I have a supercrew 6.5' bed and am very happy with it. To me, the 5.5' looks stumpy, and the bed is almost useless.

3.5 EcoBoost, 3.55 Max Tow Pkg, 6.5 ft bed. Mine is equipped like that and tows a 22' boat shockingly easy. You could even go with a 2.7 and it will tow that boat well.

The downside of the 6.5' bed and a 157" wheelbase is that the turning radius is big and takes some getting used to. Get a 5.5' bed if garaging or tight parking is an issue.

Hint; don't take a 157" wheelbase truck into a drive through with a sharp curve in it.

I agree - 3.5 EB with 3.55's and Max Tow. I have a 25' Sea Ray open bow I/O and my 2015 is configured that way and makes towing the boat easy. Built in brake controller and sway control give good safety. But, the 3.55's aren't helping the MPG as I only get about 17.5 running light.

Got that right. That's our configuration, and I joke that I need to phone ahead to make a U-turn.

I have the a similar problem at the local Starbucks. I can't make the turn w/o backing up or going up on the curb. Since I use my bed the shorter one is not a viable option.
Boats are fairly easy to tow. I have a MasterCraft X10. The EB with the 331 or 355 will tow that load with ease.

It's all a matter of perspective. When I get out of the big red truck, my F150 seems absolutely nimble, and the wife's Mariner seems ridiculously short and twitchy...
