the 94-95 is the IH pump with a factory 203 stat and it's a short stem and when they went to the new pump in 96 it became the long stem.

I ordered mine from bus depot and it required a short stem. I think I ordered a 192° from international. This is the picture of a long stem sitting in the pump that requires a short stem.

Why is 203* too hot? It's my understanding that the 7.3 is more efficient at 203* then a lower temp and the higher the T-stat temp the longer
the radiator has to cool the coolant.

203° are great until you start towing heavy in the heat and headwinds.

Ih built the 7.3 to run on the 203 stat and then ford decided to make an engineering change in 96 to put the 192 stat in to lower the operating temp.

The 203 stats dont keep you at 203.
I'm running unloaded at 220 temps.
No bueno!

the 94 and 95 had a weird ford pump, it wasn't an IH pump.

I am not sure why they changed for 96. I think it was mainly the T-stat issues they were having.

I've been running the 203 stat for awhile now. I only have the stock Ford dashboard gauge but it shows about the middle. I'm going to hook up a real gauge and see what temps it's running at. My injectors and turbo are stock so far and I don't have a chip. I don't do much heavy towing, just a camp trailer and an occasional heavy load on a flatbed but not very often.

Out of three of these trucks the stock gauge works fine. My aux gauge always agree with it.
