I don't believe I'll be swapping the firewall from the Donor truck though.

It'll be just as easy, if not easier, to just measure the dimensions and locations of the holes in the AC truck and transfer over to my truck with a template, then cut them out.
Cut out and fill in others if I remember.
I did not post it here but on my site where all my pictures are I have 1 picture of the 2 firewalls laid over each other showing that.

But what you said will work and if I get stupid and do this swap again think that's how I will do it.

Thanks man.

In other news, the F150 is running! A new battery, starter, and starter relay later, turned the key, cranked 'er over and she started right up. Truck hadn't run in 2 years!

The idle is super high at the moment, which is probably IAC or a vacuum leak but she runs good otherwise. But its just good to know I didn't get stuck with a total lemon.

Next will be pulling the AC stuff out and cleaning the F150 up as best as possible before I sell it. Stay tuned.

Did some more tinkering on the F150 today. Unplugging the IAC valve proved that that was the culprit for the high idle. I tryed cleaning with carb cleaner but it didn't make a difference. So a new IAC will be on the next rock auto order. Additionally, both the PS and ALT belts were pretty loose, the ALT belt so much that it squeals like a piggy when it runs. Got the PS belt tightened after dousing the pivot bolt several times with PB blaster to break it loose. The ALT pivot bolt hasn't broken loose yet, so more BP blaster treatments are needed.

Next thing to do is track down an exhaust system for it. The previous owner cut the exhaust where the Y-pipe would come together bc he thought he had a clogged cat. However, it was just a dirty fuel filter. So, after I do those few things it should be a fairly solid truck.

MEvans043,

SOUNDS about right. - I had a NICE 1991 F250 diesel RUINED by an INCOMPETENT "mechanic", who was recommended to me by a friend. = It would have cost more than I paid for the PU to fix what he ruined by STUPIDITY.
(So the PU went to the junkyard for parts & I recovered about half of the purchase price from the parts sale.)

yours, satx

Sorry to hear about that Satx, that's disappointing to say the least.

Would anyone know where to source the little plastic clips that help retain the rods for the tailgate release mech? The truck also came without a tailgate handle. I have an extra handle, but no plastic clips.

Never mind, found some on ebay just a second ago.

I wouldn't trust any local auto parts store around here to have such a specialized part. A month ago I walked into autozone looking for a drum brake adjuster tool, they had no idea what I was talking about.

A bodyshop store maybe, but there aren't any near me that are just a quick drive... Perks of living in a more rural area I guess.

There's always Amazon.

They seem to have most anything by Dorman/Motormite/Help

I bought some new striker bolts a couple of weeks ago

We've got a NAPA and Autozone just a town over from me. I stopped in both bc I needed some small things for the truck, found the HELP product section but neither had those clips.

I ended up buying them on ebay. Thanks though guys.

Tomorrow I'll be headed to the junk yard and hunting for an exhaust. Hopefully I can scarf something decent.
