Hi,

I have a new to me 07 expy el that I need to upgrade for towing. I understand that I need to add a trans cooler and a HD radiator, as well as wiring for the trailer brake. Are there any other points I need to cover and if anyone has sources for the components they would like to share, I'd be grateful.

Verify first if it has the 7 pin connector, if it does you may be pretty much set. If you have the 7 pin connector option (tow prep) a relay needs to be plugged in under the hood and you need a brake controller pig tail to connect under the dash.

 

Thanks, does not have the 7 pin connector, has 4 pin + capped trailer brake controller wire @ the hitch. I also have the under dash connector.

I looked on the forum for more on this and found that I've got 90% of what I need, have a wiring diagram for the truck on order, and will ID the wires on the 4 pin and add as needed for battery charging and other lamps (possible the backup lamp). One good thing is that I can put a 2016 F-250 plug @ the hitch, which is an upgrade from the original.

Will also add the HD radiator. and then expect to be good to go.
