If there was any moisture in the ground mud would pack in between the dual rear tires. That made rear traction almost worthless. Any forward momentum was done with the front axle. We learned to park on the road then drag that heavy hose to the scene.

That's why when we had to replace the older brush truck (1978 Chevy K30 with single tires/200 gallon tank) we went with the F450 4 X 4 chassis and super single tires. That F450 is the favorite among most of the firefighters. It gets a lot of use in our mainly rural fire protection district. It does come in handy for car fires on the interstate that bisects the district.
