Transmission Upgrades?

I have a hell of a lot of miles guys 635,000.

I am wondering what upgrades you recommend for my 4R100 to keep it alive.

I have been told to get a Billet Torque Converter and a Tugger shift kit. Jodi at DP-Tuner recommended the Tugger for me as I just ordered myself a set of single shot Stage 1 Injectors.

I am not set in doing this, I've just been recommended to do it by quite a few people.

I like to consider myself fairly adept at wrenching but would love any recommendations as to how to make the work easier when I go to install everything.

Who all has done this work themselves? How difficult was it?

6.0l cooler depending on your temperatures. Tech folder has a write up from Woodnthings. Stick with OEM though.

If you're saying that your stock transmission has 635xxx miles on it and your adding stage 1s. You should probably plan for a new transmission very soon. Jmho..

I would ride out the storm. Repair as necessary.

But to answer your question definitely go with a 6.0 cooler. Maybe an upgraded valve body for a firmer shift.

Awesome! I'll be getting the Tugger valve body as soon as I can!

Anyone know how hard the 6.0 Cooler is to install?

My tranny temps were at 190 at 83 ambient yesterday.

Above is Wood-N-Things reference page for 7.3 mods... check his links for the 6.0L transmission cooler installation.

I should also add that in doing the injectors out of necessity. I upgraded to stage 1 singles in hope that they'll last me a little longer.

The Tugger kit is a great upgrade. You could throw in a JW or BTS replacement Accumulator valve body and call it good, but the extra mods, included in this kit for the Main valve body, are worth doing.

John Woods =JW, and Brians Truck Shop= BTS. Both Brian and John are fantastic re-builders and have upgraded valvebody's for purchase separate from their full transmissions. Both have programs where you can go and watch them build your transmission in front of you.

John is in Holtville California, and Brian is down in Lead Hill Arkansas.

I would also recommend flushing the trans on a regular basis.. I shoot for 30-45k miles using wally world Dex/Merc.

Very easy to do...
