rebuild kits?
Hey guys and gals new to the site but wanted some trusted opinions from y'all!
so my 300 is in need if rebuilding and see that some eBay sellers have a full rebuild kit for them but my block is out of a 66 and the rebuild kits only go down to 68 or so.
would these kits fit an older block?
anyone bought a whole kit or part and piece it together off like summit?
would like opinions not intending on boring out want to buy in standard size.
any thing helps
thanks

One kit fits any pre efi 300. I would buy a quality Fel-pro head gasket. The kit I used had poor quality one. It also had a bad set of the timing gears that I had to change after 50 miles. Buy the Comp cams t.gear set, the Mr. Gasket #260 int/exh gasket, and the Fel-pro head gasket that costs like $50. It is worth it. The rest of the gaskets are fine. Oh, save yourself some trouble and buy a pan gasket for the efi years. It is one piece and far better. It actually seals. YOu have to grind down the raised ring around you bolt holes on your pan, but it is well worth it.k

thanks for the info! went to my local Napa and they want 557 for a master kit but gonna op out for the comp cam kit 252h and like you said the fel pro gasket and will definitely have to get a one piece oil pan gasket! Napa was trying.to rake me over for cam bearings and oil pump.. lol almost half price compared to like the King BB series bearings and plan on buying.the melling m-74 oil pump save me a few.dollars that I can use for.the better gasket set! thanks for the info on the proper way to fit a.one.piece gasket much appricieated to your knowledge!!

Didn't the 68 and older engine have different sized bearings and such?
As far as boring it vs. not boring, that's not usually something you can just choose to do or not to do. It's based on how much wear the engine has. If the bores are worn out of round, you'll need to enlarge them to get them circular again.
