Rust proofing??????

Hi all. Got the call yesterday with VIN # and build date starting on 4-18 for the new truck. Really pumped. First new car ever.

Live in the terrible rust belt. Does anyone offer rust proofing that works? Have not asked the dealer yet but would like some real world experience. thanks.

I've been using Fluid Film for the last few years with great success. It's not a permanent coating, you just spray the underside liberally in the fall, and it does a good job lasting all winter long. Because it's not permanent you don't have to worry about overspray, it can come off with soap and water.

I'm not a fan of rust proofing. If you decide to get it, make sure it doesn't void your manufacturer warranty.
I know people who think Fluid Film is the best and some others that like LPS 3. At least with these products your Ford Corrosion Warranty is still good.

Thanks for bringing that up, never crossed my mind. I will just go with the FF. Ordered some from supplier at work already.

It's not that I think Fluid Film is necessarily the best, but it's cheap and effective. I like the fact that it's not permanent and is unlikely to cause issues. I don't have to worry about overspray because it can be washed off easily.

If someone has a better idea I'm all ears, but so far Fluid Film has been tough to beat. I paid $40 for a gallon of the stuff two years ago, and I apply it with an air gun.

I'll third the Fluid Film. It is a lanolin based product that needs to be applied every year but because it is more like an oil than a tar or other hard coating it displaces water and doesn't trap moisture. It's cheap, been effective for me on 8-10 year old vehicles in salt drenched VT. It does stink for the first few hours after application but not in a horrible way. You also don't need any special protective equipment to use it and it is biodegradable so if it drips on the lawn or in your garage just hose it off.

Another vote for Fluid Film.Although it works great,it's not biodegradable.

You are correct - not biodegradable - I should have said non-toxic and not apparently harmful to the environment. Thanks for the clarification - sloppy language on my part.
