Have an 05 f250 that sometimes locks when coming out of a turn. Pretty scary when it happens. Universal joints are not seized. (jacked truck up and locked the hubs and tuned the wheel and both turn and rotate freely)


Can I assume my gearbox is going bad?

 

Did your turn the steering wheel lock to lock and rotate the wheels as well? This will best determine if you have a bad u-joint. If you just rotated the wheels while the steering is straight ahead, you are not flexing the u-joint.


I can't determine if you turned the wheel/tire assembly or the steering wheel.

 

I jacked the front end up, turned the wheels to full lock, locked the hubs, and spun the wheels by hand and the balljoints rotated with no binding.

 

Also noticed both axle shafts have play going into the hubs. Is this normal or are the inner bearing going out?
