Not saying that the 7.3 IDI doesn't have its share of problems, but the cavitation issue tends to be overblown.
Just to be clear; my statement was to depict the insignificance of the cavitation issue. Idis are great.

Agreed. Just a handful but at least you can look at a 53 block and KNOW it will be an issue. The 7.3 is kinda a crapshoot as to if the coolant system was ever serviced

I believe that the pressure plate diaphragm spring can become work hardened after a certain number of cycles. Everything has a life cycle fatigue. Doesn't mean the clutch is no good; if its not slipping, I wouldn't worry about it.

Didn't these trucks have an issue with the firewall area cracking? Perhaps the extra pedal pressure could make that more of an issue? Maybe I am talking out of my @#$.

As for the IDI, my only experience with one was a 6.9 that was worked hard (loaded to 25K GVW+) and ran well to 470K. Then it ran to 505K. My only experience with a 53 block Cummins is the one my friend has with 230K and no issues. Always a cold weather truck too. The internet (and people with no first hand experience) sensationalize vehicle issues. From a statistics point of view, people are way more likely to complain about a faulty product than praise a good one.
