The bolded cannot be added after the fact without major cost involved. Though it is highly unlikely the standard exhaust valves and seats are not hardened to some degree, I figure there must be some difference or Ford would not mention it.
If you plan to keep the truck over a long period of time you may want to add the package just in case you decide to go with CNG or LP down the road during the longer ownership. If you buy every 3-5 years it may be a crap shoot.
Compressed natural gas (CNG) and propane autogas are becoming increasingly popular choices for those looking to help cut fuel costs and reduce greenhouse gas emissions. That’s why the 6.2L V8-powered Super Duty® offers the CNG/Propane Gaseous Engine Prep Package.* Included are hardened exhaust valves and valve seats for improved wear resistance and durability for gaseous fuel systems. What’s more, the 6.2L V8 is flex-fuel capable, so you can run on unleaded gasoline, E85 (up to 85 percent ethanol and 15 percent gasoline), or any mix of the two. Fuel injection and spark timing are adjusted according to the blend detected by electronic sensors. Also, the 6.7L Power Stroke® Turbo Diesel V8 is B20 (biodiesel) capable.
