1948 Ford F4

This truck belonged to my great Papaw, and my Papaw always had plans to restore it. My Papaw lost his battle with cancer a few years ago, and my Mamaw has been talking about restoring it lately and I would like to upgrade a few things while we do it. To start off, the truck has a inline 6 cyl, and I think a 3 speed trans. Now I know that the wheels are no longer serviceable, and they are dangerous. I have been talking to my Mamaw about what she wants to do with it. The truck was running and driving when it was put in the shed. I think it was about 5 years ago when we moved it from one shed to another. Anyways She is open to both restoring it factory and also to doing a power-train swap to make it a more usable truck. I have a dually rear from a 1996 ford f350 with a 3.54 ratio, which would change the rear to an 8x6.5 lug pattern, what can be done to the front end to change the lug pattern to 8x6.5? I would like to see the truck on 19.5" steel wheels, and my Mamaw agrees. I've been thinking about dropping a big block in it to give it more power, and I would like to keep it manual trans. Anyways here's a picture of the truck.

Thanks, I'll try to get some more. It's raining right now, I've been looking around for a donor truck or an engine/trans. Gotta see what I can find.

Also sorry for your loss BUT glad to hear the plans still are moving forward.
Question to the group: I do not remember that blue being a stock color for 48-50 (Atlantic Blue was stock for 51 and that is the color I am painting my 49) so I would have to guess it is a respray?

It's actually black, kinda faded bluish. It was originally Red. Plans are to repaint it red. My great papaw didn't like red, so he painted it. I want to say that my papaw told me it was spray painted with cans.

Sorry for your loss, I have a 1949 f-4 stock flathead V-8 in it, I did find a set of budd wheels for it and got rid of the widow maker wheels, just a suggestion ..... I would keep it stock and enjoy it! A big block...... I think for a f-1 street rod yes, f-4 not so much. Part of the charm is driving down the road saying I can't believe people drove this stuff!!!!
Also my top speed is maybe 47 mph down hill! Trust me that's fast enough for the f-4! Lol
Here's a photo before my wheel swap

What did the wheels come off of? I wouldn't mind keeping it stock. Honestly I think it is kinda cool. I know what most of my papaws plans were before he passed, he was going to put dual exhaust on it. 3 cyl ea. Another thing, I am pretty sure the seat is trashed, it has had a horse blanket over it since before I was born. My great papaw died in 1990, and he had parked it because it needed breaks and he couldn't find them. My papaw found them, and they're stashed somewhere around the shop (along with 12.5million other things).

Welcome to FTE!
Edith is an F5, one size up from the F4, but wears the same shoes (wheels). There are options out there and the most popular are the 19.5 from 70's-80's class a motorhomes on Dodge 1 1/2 ton chassis.

Now Joe, don't get the man all excited about finding himself a set of the Alcoa 763220s. Not made of aluminum, made out of unobtainium! I know of three sets. Yours, the set I sold, and the set that is on the hot rod "Undertaker". The only new source would be to turn up a donor FMC motor home of the 1970s.

A more available set of 19.5s would be the Budd 89340s from a Dodge RM400/500 motor home as said. Below is a pic of a set on one of our member's truck. Stu

I found a listing on here, he's close to me, but he only has 5 wheels. Could I buy one of these to run on the inside of one of the duals? Part Number - WN89340J

Yep there the ones! Take your time and scour some old junkyards, you will find them! I hit two yards by me and actually scored 9 of them
