Blown out freeze plug
My 66 blew out a freeze plug while driving down the road. Sounded like beer caps thrown in a gabage disposal. Anyway... does anyone have experience with something like this? What could casue it? Is oil usually present after? I had a steady stream pouring out from where the dust cover bolts to the tranny.
Fyi its at the shop getting repaired. This is just the info I was told and wanted to see what tbe real experts had to say on this site.
Another topic is that after I lowered the 66 I had the drive shaft shortened. The shop its at now said its not short enough. What is the normal amount of play that you need where the drive shaft enters the tranny. Thanks again.
I miss her 😭

It sounds like the plug that blew was the one on the back of the block for the cam. You didn't state what engine or trans you have. If it's a 352 that plug goes in backwards compared to the way a normal freeze plug is installed. Figuring out why it blew is going to be fun..
I like a minimum of at least 1" depending on how much the output shaft splines stick out from the rear of the tail shaft
