Spark plug wire kit # ???

Does anyone have a # for a spark plug wire kit from oreillys, autozone, or Napa that fit a 1948 ford f1 with a 226 flathead 6? They have sold me 2 kits now that won't work, the wires are too short. Also are the cylinders numbered 1-6 from the fan back or from the cab forward? Thanks

Spark plugs count from the front, water pump end, of the engine.

I got mine from LMC. Expensive, but I didn't want to build my own.

50 bucks for a set? Oh my. Kinda spendy for my wallet. Guess it's been a while since I bought a new set. Last one was from the JY and cost me 5 bucks. from a couple late 60's olds cutlasses. Are they good wires with a decent fit? Some day I'll have to break down and buy a set. Funny how there is 30 dollars difference from the 48-51 set and the 52-56 set.

I see Dennis Carpenter has a set for about the same price. At least he has a color pic to look at.

A couple suggestions: 1. Measure the wires you have currently, go to the parts store on a day/time they are not busy and open the sets on the counter and measure until you find a set that will work.
2. buy a set for a V8, use the 6 wires that fit, save the extras for spares.
3. buy a universal set, cut to length and add terminals.

Spark plug wires are spark plug wires, they don't have to be for any particular application as long as they reach from the distributor to the plug.

It's all about volume. My son just had to buy a whole set to replace his cap-to-coil wire for his '98 Jeep with 4.0 6-banger. At AutoZone it was less than $25, but they wouldn't work on yours. The 52-56 6-cyl sets were used up into the '60's on 215's and 223's, lots more demand for them.

Bought a DIY kit from Speedway (Or was it Summit?) and while it was easy enough and decent quality it was kind of a PITA and next time will spend the extra $10 for a tailor made set. A flathead you might want to use solid core even, or Packard 440 wire.
