Stuck in 4x4 with hubs locked
A relative's '04 EX Limited is having an odd problem. He put it in "4x4 Low" to back a trailer into a barn and after the task was complete the transfer case wouldn't shift out of low range. He tried multiple times and after about 5 minutes of fiddling around with it, it shifted into 4-Hi but wouldn't go back to 2-Hi. The hubs are in the "auto" position and will not manually unlock (the selector turns). 4x4 indicator on dash is not lit. Could the dash switch be bad? Why would the transfer case and hubs act up at the same time?

It went back into 2wd on it's own sometime today. Both the front driveshaft and hubs are now completely unlocked can turn axles by hand. He's kinda leery of putting it back in 4wd, but we have 5-8 inches of snow predicted starting tomorrow so he will soon find out if this is a reoccouring issue.

1: Please at your general lo-cal to the profile page.
2: Get them to come on the board and do the same as well
3: Have them check out this thread !!! "4wd not working, Xmas trip coming up" it's still on the 1st page

I've had similar issues in the past with 4wd not disengaging (manual hubs so those aren't an issue). If not run often enough I think the shift motors and engagement mechanisms get a little bound up.
Once every two weeks I'll just throw it in 4wd and cruising a straight stretch of road to keep things happy and moving. Have t had any issues since I started doing that.

I agree also, my 4x4 would not engage into high or low this past winter, had not used 4x4 since winter 13/14, I used a rubber mallet and banged on transfer case a few times, went right into 4x4 again. Now I run my 4x4 every few weeks just to keep things lubed, as previously stated, "use it or loose it"
