extra fuel tank questions

This is pertaining to my 2000 cclb 7.3

We're planning a trip through Canada sometime, last time I was through there fuel was either expensive or quite a ways between stations. I've been running over options for carrying extra fuel, haven't come up with an option that is either cheap enough or fits with the load we have. I'll be running a topper on this trip and unloading everything to get to a transfer tank in the front of the bed isn't an option.

I have a v10 parts excursion on which the fuel tank is intact. Wondering if I can mount that tank in place of the spare and just run it as a transfer tank. I don't want to make it a permanent fixture, so I won't cut the bed to install the inlet, re plumb or re wire the existing tank... I'd probably just have a coil of fuel line that I would place in the stock tanks filler and hit a manual switch to transfer fuel.

1. Will the in tank pump work for diesel?
2. Do I need anything extra to mount this tank up?

It can be done with some mods and fabrication, but not likely the way you want to use it. Here's a thread from a few years ago detailing what is involved in the process: https://www.ford-trucks.com/forums/9...ne-in-yet.html
