21-stud: remove transmission

I bought a 21-stud with 3 speed transmission last week. I think both are 1936. Now I'm in trouble separating the transmission from the engine. All screws are loose and I can pull the transmission about 0.3 inch, but not more. Is there anything I have to loose through the inspection cover? I read several how to's, but all say "pull transmission backwards".

Did you remove the starter? Other than that, the transmission usually just comes off. I would remove the inspection cover and check things out to be safe.

The starter is out and everything looks fine through the inspection cover. Transmission can be pushed backward and forward (about 0.3 inch), can be rotated and wiggled a bit.
I'm thinking about using some wooden wedges to drive it off.

The transmission input shaft may be stuck or rusted into the clutch hub. A little penetrating oil through the inspection cover on the shaft splines may free it up.

After the penetrating oil, the wedges are a good idea. As I have a woodshop I use wooden wedges to solve all kinds of stuck situations. Slow and easy and light taps on evenly spaced wedges. I use them for stuck cylinder heads but I have bent a few open valves in the process. Just keep trying. There is no such thing as stuck forever.
