Trouble filling gas tank 2009 SD 5.4

Hey all, read a lot about trouble filling gas tanks after a while on these trucks. It could be this,it could be that. They may have fixed the issue but never reply back to say exactly what cause was. Heard it could be the filler neck, vapor canister, or solinoid.
There is also some type of small canister on the driver's side firewall above the brake booster, what is that ?
I'm having this problem now and just wonder what you all have found to be the problem.
Thanks a lot, Duane

Don't quote me on this but i think in 2005 ford started putting charcoal canisters on the gas trucks. These are known to clog and vause fuel filling issues, just helped a buddy do a 2010 f250 with 5.4. The canister is up on the rear frame by the spare

Trouble filling gas tank 2009 SD 5.4

The solenoid above the brake booster lets the vapors from the tank into the intake manifold to be burned up. I have the same issue on my 08. I replaced the solenoid first and it did nothing. I did figure out that if you take the lower hose off the solenoid before you pump your gas it fills just fine. Don't forget to reconnect it though before you drive. Mine has been like this for 2 years now I've just been too lazy to replace the evap canister

Thanks a lot, do you know if you should be able to blow through the solenoid under the hood ?
Thanks for the info so far !

Did you also blow out all the lines, particularly the lines from the evap canister to the tank and the line from the tank to the fuel filler [there normally is a large one and a small one, the small one will sometimes get things blocking it]?

There may be a TSB on this issue. The dealer know what to do they have seen this before. I know you dont want to take it in to the steelership but its better than throwing parts at a problem and not getting a fix.

Located just above the brake booster small with two lines going to the intake.

I haven't blown both lines back. . I removed the the carbon canister and ran an air hose through that a few times but it seemed to flow air through ok.
The solenoid under the hood should you be able to blow through that ?
Thanks

I blew back the small fitting that attaches to the bed cross brace with the check valve and seemed clear.
Think I'm going to change out the canister. I hate to chance $120 but I think it may be worth it.

All my lines, including the canister flowed through but the dang thing still won't full up. Not to worried about it. I just pop the good and disconnect the hose.

Filled up today and removed the bottom hose. Works like a charm but don't want to have to do this everytime. Thanks for the heads up.
