Odd serial number question

What's up with the third star? I posted this on Fordbarn too, hoping I can find some wisdom one place or the other.

The stamper probably just forgot the first numbers for the type of vehicle and went back to add them later?

It was Monday?

I see also that the 1st star is slightly bigger- likely added later by someone else?

Maybe they didn't know it was going to be a V8 (18) until later

Sidebar :: I've looked very carefully, and I have no stars around my serial No., tho the digits sure seem to look factory, including the 'wiggly' manner they are (not well) aligned. Numbers are stamped lightly tho.
