Motorcraft vs aftermarket

Was wondering if any of you guys had tried any of the aftermarket valve cover gaskets and wiring harnesses? The cost difference is significant enough to consider not using the motorcraft gaskets and harness so I can afford to pick up the other winter goodies I want for my truck. I need to save some $$ somewhere if I can, but don't want to regret not using OEM because I cheaped out and end up with problems.

While I am looking for cost savings do any of you know of a good alternative to the Truetrac for changing my open rear diff, to a limited slip? I like and want the true Trac but by the time I buy it, and a master installation kit, pay someone to install it, I am going to be in pretty deep.

I would recommend the OEM uvch, ived tryed the autozone and orielly ones at work with poor success, ( they tend to melt the pins from the glow plugs) just buy the oem ones and call itva day, they last for a while.

You can do SD UVCH and pigtails for less than 200. Cheaper than the OBS setup. If it were me, I understand money is tight, but I'm too broke to buy cheap parts and have them crap out on me.

I had assumed OEM would be better. Someone mentioned the SD ones were cheaper, is that true and do I have to do anything to make everything compatible.

The Advantage of the SD's( that I have read ) is the gauge of the wires & there are 2 less UVCH harnesses . It is quite a bit more work to convert them but may be worth it .

I did mine last year with parts from ford for my 97 . Bought ford Cover gaskets , UVCH & plug fittings without wires ( the clips hold up better ) 3 Aftermarket plugs & removed the wires & installed them into the ford connectors . Soldered & shrink tubing for the connections .

8 new gp's ,(only one of mine was bad) but I had a free set of motorcrafts so I put them in while I was there . ( The zone was getting rid of them several years ago for a penny apiece . TJ picked up a few sets & gave me 8 . That along with a really good GPR . Good to go

thanks everbody...just trying to save a few bucks cause I intend to finally get a good set of tires and a truetrac....(my truck has an open rear diff, whoever thought that was a good idea should be taken out back and shot) and on my budget its gonna hurt. So if I can save any $$ to spend on that it would be GREAT....

Doing the glowplugs myself is a nice little savings in and of itself...now if I just had the confidence to do the truetrac.....
