Is my truck shifting funny or is this normal?
Hi, I have a 2012 STX 4x4 5.0 liter engine. I have posted this before and a couple members said it was normal.
When my truck shifts into third gear and about to shift to 4th gear the rpms lower and then the rpms go back up then smoothly shifts into 4th gear. Someone said that it was the torque converter activating or something like that. my aunt has the same truck but its an fx4 and hers doesn't do it.
It drives me crazy.
Thank you in advance!
-Michael.

Can you post up a video?
These trucks do lock the torque converter shortly after the 2-3 shift, which often times feels like a bit of a sag.
Sounds like it might be normal, unless you are getting a flare on the 3-4 shift.
Try driving it with the tow/haul engaged. That gets rid of the 3rd gear converter lock strategy.

Have you mentioned this to your local Ford Dealer? They'll be able to tell you definitively if your truck is operating within spec. How many miles are on it?

I will be posting a video. Every time I talk to my dealer they tell me to make an appointment and I have to pay them just to look at it for 5 minutes to answer my question. It's rediculous.

Could you give me a rough idea of how many miles are on your truck? If you decide to get your local Ford Dealership involved, I'll be able to investigate options to assist. Keep us in the loop.
