Waiting to find and economical tuner w/ egr delete on it and still have all the gauges and performance tunes, would love to get better than 13.6 mpg.
I went to my local Custom Truck shop today and many of them drive the 6.0 They recommend the SCT X4. I can use the Torque Pro on my phone to view any numbers I chose to look at. It is easier than reading the numbers on the SCT Live Wire and about 225 dollars cheaper. They sell the SCT X4 for 300.00

I use SCT and have since 2001... the preferred tuner of owners it seems.

Lots of other tuners don't remove timing during the shift, eats trannies.
Lots of guys prefer the x4 and I believe it monitors some gauges. I use Torque Pro on my phone, Samsung Pad with Torque for long trips and run Scan Gauge 2 daily. Torque is great for more stuff... even use FORSCAN for the bigger look at the truck. and some testing.

I use the touch screen extreme by SCT, its older but does the trick... plug it in, load the tune and put it away... watch Scan Gauge until something I think needs a better look.

Did some research, and some price checking. Well I'm convinced, ordered The SCTx4 a few min ago, for $325, hope it works as great as everyone says.

I did not order any yet, hoping that it comes with some, for a little performance boost, but haven't done anything to the truck other than EGR delete and 3" straight pipe to a side dump w/ 5" tip. I don't want to get too radicle yet till more mods are done.
I'm not even sure how to get more tunes, do I have to send the whole tuner back or can I get them online, and do I have to get them from SCT or anyone?
I didn't purchase it from SCT, got it on Amazon from Iron Auto.

It will come with canned tunes pre loaded on it from SCT.
Those tunes are ok but most prefer custom tunes.
Popular ones around here are Mat's gearhead tunes.
I'm going to order his SRL extreme soon. I'm running Vivian lonely wild now.
They will email you the tune files and you upload them to the tuner yourself. No need to send it in.

If you did mostly highway driving and no load...it wouldn't get hot. The fan doesn't spin much when there is 60-80 mph air flowing into the grill. If you were towing and climbing a hill....different story. What are you reading engine temp with...the dash gauge?

I just changed mine. I've been using the Rotella T6 but I went with the Delo 400LE. My FICM voltage is now a rock solid 147, I'm getting 53mpg (hand calculated) and rainbows shoot out of my tailpipe when I'm over 40psi of boost! I'm thinking of getting some stacks now. I think this stuff has carbon nanotubes or something like that in it.

Honestly, when shopping for oil just make sure it is API CJ-4 rated, and feel free to try different brands. Cheaper isn't necessarily better but there are decent bargains on high quality oils if you watch for sales. Many prefer a synthetic over a conventional oil and blends of both are also available. There is a lot of science behind this subject, if you're interested in more detail check out a website called Bob Is The Oil Guy or BITOG for short.
